Kumud Choudhary, head of programming for SaharaOne Television, says of Shyamlee: 'She's no different from your sister, from your mother. She's an ordinary person with an extraordinary story.'

Choudhary added that Shyamlee is 'spunky' and 'has a mind of her own.' The serial aims to help the viewers look inward and think whether marriage is about hare kanch ki choodiyan (the green bangles that signify marriage) or hathkadiyan (handcuffs). It asks if the institution of marriage still works. Choudhary says the show is also about family relationships but is essentially an 'intriguing love story.'
